Châteauneuf du Pape, Gigondas, Séguret
Wine Tasting Tours : 1h30 from Marseille, 1h from Aix.
We’ll walk along the narrow winding streets dotted with fountains up to the castle built by Pope John XXII. The AOC Châteauneuf-du-Pape is the flagship wine of the southern Rhone Valley and one of the greatest French wines. In the fourteenth century, Pope John XXII had a fortress built in Châteauneuf and ordered the cultivation of the famous vineyard.
With this wine tasting tours, we’ll visit first a wine museum which contains a large collection of tools used in wine making dating back to the sixteenth century. Then we’ll visit a few wineries and taste several wines. Then we’ll drive to Gigondas where you can also try organic wine, classified in Côtes-du-Rhône Villages, he is the first vineyard to obtain the appellation “Crus des Cotes du Rhône” in 1971.
Gigondas is a beautiful village, nestled at the foot of Montmirail Lace, in the purest Provençal style thanks to its houses with beautiful round tiles and old facades. Located in the heart of the former Principality of Orange, his name comes from the latin « Jucunditas » which means joy and rejoicing.
After that, we continue the wine tasting tours with Séguret, classified among the most beautiful villages of France, offers its alleys in calade (sloping and stone paved) for a stroll in the shade of its old walls in an atmosphere where the weather seems to have stopped. Hanging on the hill in a dominant position on lace-bottoms, it offers magnificent perspectives on the landscapes.
